UG's staff and students issue ultimatum to Ramotar
Staff and students’ organisations of the University of Guyana Friday decided to issue an ultimatum to President Donald Ramotar to explain what is happening at the tertiary institution.
A well-placed source told Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com ) that if the Guyanese leader does not respond by Wednesday unrest on campus would intensify.
Swallowing cocaine was sacrifice for sisters- Magistrates' Court employee
"I made the sacrifice for my sisters and I'm prepared to face the consequences, but please be lenient with me” was the tearful plea of a Georgetown Magistrates Court Office Assistant before he was sentenced to prison and fined for cocaine trafficking.
Terry De Freitas,29, pleaded guilty to being in possession of 1 kilogramme of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Cocaine found aboard Jamaica-bound cargo vessel
Three kilogrammes of cocaine were late Friday seized from aboard a Jamaica-bound cargo ship.
A senior official of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) said the illicit substance was found aboard the MV Vegas Satchin.
